The thermal adaptation models and human thermal acceptable temperature ranges of four typical cities in hot summer and cold winter zone and cold zone are given. The common building envelopes of the four cities are investigated. Based on the dynamic changes of outdoor air temperature on typical design days in summer, the hourly variation values of the inner surface temperatures of different building envelopes are obtained. Based on the thermal adaptation model, the highest human-acceptable inner surface temperature of common building envelopes in typical cities in different climatic regions is determined and compared with the current relevant code. The results show that the highest inner surface temperatures of the building envelopes in the natural ventilation environment in Shanghai and Xi’an stipulated in the code do not meet the requirements of personnel thermal comfort, and the limit value stipulated in the code should be upgraded appropriately.
